Experience one of St. Joseph's most beautiful and historic landmarks through the eyes of an artist. Begin the day with a guided walking tour led by local historian Suzanne Lehr, who will share the fascinating stories, remarkable architecture, and rich history that make Mount Mora Cemetery a true outdoor museum. Established in 1851 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Mount Mora is known for its scenic winding roads, impressive monuments, and the final resting place of many influential figures from St. Joseph's past.
Following the tour, participants are invited to spend the afternoon sketching throughout the cemetery until 4:00 PM. Whether you enjoy architectural details, historic monuments, peaceful landscapes, or plein air drawing, Mount Mora offers endless inspiration for artists of all skill levels.
This special event serves as a fundraiser for both the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art and Mount Mora Cemetery, helping support two important local organizations dedicated to preserving art and history.
Participants should bring their preferred sketching or plein air supplies and dress for the weather, as this workshop will take place outdoors. A picnic lunch is also recommended so you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings during the day.

Celebrate the colors and beauty of autumn in this watercolor workshop with artist Linda Kinder. Students will learn watercolor techniques while creating a fall landscape inspired by their own photo reference. Linda will guide participants through planning a composition, working with color, and building a finished landscape painting. This workshop is perfect for artists looking to develop their watercolor skills in a relaxed and creative setting.
Students Should Bring:
Watercolor paper pad (Strathmore is a good option)
Watercolor brushes in a variety of sizes, including fine, medium, and large flat and round brushes

Witches Tea
Since 2016, the museum has hosted Witches Tea, an annual event celebrating the Halloween season. The lunch seating will be served at noon and supper at 6:30 PM. Attendees are invited to come in costume. There will be a costume contest and awards.

St. Joseph Reads gave away 300 copies of Theo of Golden, bringing together hundreds of readers with countless perspectives. Just like art, books are open to interpretation! Whether you loved the book, hated it, or landed somewhere in between, you're invited to share your thoughts and join the conversation. This lively discussion is an opportunity to connect with fellow readers, explore different viewpoints, and celebrate the power of storytelling.
There will also be creative art activities for kids to enjoy throughout the evening, making this a fun outing for all ages!
Costumes are encouraged, so dress up in your Halloween best and join the festivities! Dinner will be available for purchase for $8, along with a cash bar.

Join exhibiting artist Jill Enfield for a special one-day workshop exploring Van Dyke Brown printing, a historic alternative photographic process known for its rich, warm brown tones and beautiful tonal range.
Enfield’s exhibition, Visible Evidence, is currently on view at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art through November 8. In the exhibition, Enfield combines contemporary digital photography with historic processes, transforming photographs of the Hudson River Valley into wet plate collodion ambrotypes and handmade platinum/palladium prints. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from the artist and explore another historical photographic process through hands-on experience.
During the workshop, Jill will introduce participants to Van Dyke Brown printing and guide them through the process from negative to finished print. Students will learn how to prepare and coat watercolor paper with a light-sensitive solution, expose their images using UV light, and properly wash, fix, clear, and dry their prints.
The workshop will begin with selecting and preparing negatives suitable for alternative-process printing. Participants will create test prints before working toward their final images, with the goal of leaving the workshop with one or two completed Van Dyke Brown prints.
Whether you are a photographer interested in alternative processes or simply curious about historical photographic techniques, this workshop provides an approachable introduction and the knowledge needed to continue experimenting with Van Dyke Brown printing on your own.
Supplies to Bring
Participants should bring:
Negatives sized to your desired final image. Jill will have additional negatives available for participants who do not have large-format negatives.
Contact printer or two sheets of glass with binder clips
Hair dryer with a cool setting
Nitrile gloves
Watercolor paper; hot press paper is recommended. Suggested options include Hahnemühle Platinum Rag, Aquarelle, or Canson.
Approximately 2-inch brush dedicated to this process. Jill recommends a Sterling Edwards brush, although less expensive brushes may also be used.
Darkroom towel that you don't mind getting stained

About the Instructor
Jill Enfield is a fine art photographer, educator, and author specializing in historical photographic techniques and alternative processes. She teaches workshops and lectures internationally and has authored three books on alternative photographic processes.
Her work often brings contemporary subject matter together with historic photographic techniques. Her immigration series was first exhibited at Ellis Island in 2017 and has since traveled throughout the United States.
Her current exhibition at the AKMA, Visible Evidence, explores the landscape and history of New York's Hudson River Valley. Beginning with digital photographs taken from a moving train, Enfield transforms each image through multiple stages, creating wet plate collodion ambrotypes on glass before scanning and enlarging them as handmade platinum/palladium prints. Through this combination of contemporary and historical processes, the work explores change, memory, movement, and the traces of the past that remain visible within the landscape.

Participants will create fused glass jewelry pieces using molds to shape their designs, as well as a glass mosaic artwork. For the mosaic, students are encouraged to bring a colorful reference image to inspire and guide their design.
After the first class, all assembled pieces will be fired in the kiln. In the second class, students will return to finish their jewelry by assembling the final components and adding any finishing touches. They will also refine and complete their glass mosaic artwork. Day 2 will be a shorter session focused on finishing jewelry pieces and picking up all completed projects.

Learn from the masters while developing techniques you can bring into your own studio practice! Join professional artist Cody Wheelock for a full-day workshop exploring the traditional process of creating a master copy painting.
Students will select a painting by an artist they admire and create their own small-scale version on an 8x10-inch or smaller canvas. Rather than focusing on creating an exact reproduction, this workshop is designed to help students slow down, study another artist’s choices, and gain a deeper understanding of composition, value, color, and technique.
Cody will guide students through the four-step painting process he uses in his own work: drawing and transfer, grisaille underpainting, color block-in, and overpainting. Students will begin with acrylic paints for the underpainting and color block-in before transitioning to oils for the finishing stages. This approach allows the class to move through each step more quickly, making it possible to experience the full process in a single day.
By the end of the workshop, students will have a strong start on—or potentially complete—their master copy while learning a versatile painting process they can continue practicing and applying to their own work at home.
Materials to Bring:
One 8x10-inch or smaller canvas panel or stretched canvas
1–3 printed artwork references by painters you admire; choose images with proportions similar to an 8x10 canvas
Acrylic paint: red, yellow, blue, brown, black, and white (exact colors are your choice)

Give your artwork the professional finishing touch in this hands-on workshop with artist and educator Alex Asher. Whether you're preparing work for an exhibition, a gift, or your own home, you'll learn the essential skills needed to confidently mat, frame, wire, and hang your artwork.
Students will work with their own pieces while learning how to properly measure artwork, select complementary mat colors, cut mats, assemble frames, attach hanging hardware, and display artwork securely. Alex will also share tips for choosing frames and mats that enhance your work and create a polished presentation.
Please bring one or more pieces of artwork you would like to frame, along with your own frame and mat. A limited selection of mat board will be available for purchase or use, but bringing your own materials is recommended to ensure the best match for your artwork. Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to strengthen your drawing skills, this four-week course offers a welcoming introduction to the fundamentals of drawing. Instructor Alex Asher will guide students through the process of developing an initial composition while exploring perspective, line quality, shading, and value using both graphite pencils and charcoal.
Students will spend time drawing in the classroom as well as throughout the museum galleries, using artwork and museum spaces as inspiration. All supplies are included, and participants should meet in the classroom at the beginning of each session before venturing into the museum.

Jaylen will guide students step-by-step through the digital drawing process, from setting up a new file and navigating drawing software to working with brushes, color, layers, composition, and more. Who says summer art camp is just for kids? After spending the summer helping young artists ages 6–12 explore their creativity, Miss Bee and Miss Alex are bringing some of the fun to the grown-ups!
Join us for a full day of creating, experimenting, and rediscovering the joy of making art. Miss Bee and Miss Alex will revisit some of their favorite projects from this year’s Summer Art Camp and give them an adult-friendly spin. Throughout the day, participants will explore a variety of materials and techniques while creating colorful, imaginative artwork of their own.
This class is all about having fun with the creative process. No art experience is necessary—just come ready to make, experiment, and enjoy a day of art without taking yourself too seriously. After all, if our young campers can create amazing artwork, so can you!
A variety of projects are planned for the day, with selections based on time and the pace of the group. All art supplies are provided, and lunch is included in the class fee.

Jaylen will guide students step-by-step through the digital drawing process, from setting up a new file and navigating drawing software to working with brushes, color, layers, composition, and more. Along the way, you’ll create your own llama character and customize it with accessories of your choice, giving you plenty of room to experiment and develop an illustration that reflects your personal style.
This playful project is a great introduction to digital art for anyone who has wanted to try drawing on a tablet but wasn’t sure where to begin. No prior digital drawing experience is necessary—just bring your device and get ready to create!

Discover the art of glass fusing in this hands-on, two-class workshop designed for beginners and creatives of all levels. In the first class, students will learn the fundamentals of working with fused glass, including safe material handling, cutting techniques, design assembly, and an overview of the kiln-firing process. Participants will create fused glass jewelry pieces using molds to shape their designs, as well as a glass mosaic artwork. For the mosaic, students are encouraged to bring a colorful reference image to inspire and guide their design.
After the first class, all assembled pieces will be fired in the kiln. In the second class, students will return to finish their jewelry by assembling the final components and adding any finishing touches. They will also refine and complete their glass mosaic artwork. Day 2 will be a shorter session focused on finishing jewelry pieces and picking up all completed projects.
All materials for both classes are included. Our glass kiln was generously donated by Eileen Dyer, whose support helps make this creative experience possible!

Free Museum After Hours
September After Hours: Mount Mora
Join us for September After Hours as we explore the history and stories of St. Joseph’s historic Mount Mora Cemetery. Suzanne Lehr and Megan Wyeth will present a special St. Joseph history talk at 6:00 PM in the museum auditorium, sharing stories connected to Mount Mora and the people who helped shape our community.
Copies of Megan Wyeth’s book about Mount Mora will also be available for purchase during the event.
After Hours is free and open to the public from 4:00–7:00 PM. Come explore the museum, enjoy an evening of local history, and spend time with friends and neighbors. Dinner will be available for purchase, along with a cash bar.

Celebrate the arrival of fall by creating a one-of-a-kind fantasy felted pumpkin! In this fun, beginner-friendly workshop, fiber artist Saundra Keiffer will introduce students to the art of needle felting using colorful dyed wool roving and curly sheep locks. Learn how wool fibers are blended to create beautiful art batts before using felting needles to sculpt your own whimsical pumpkin.
Once your pumpkin takes shape, personalize it with a variety of autumn-inspired trims, yarn, textured fibers, and other decorative embellishments to create a unique seasonal keepsake you'll enjoy displaying year after year.
All supplies are included. Students are welcome to bring their own basic needle felting tools (foam pad, medium felting needles, or favorite embellishments) if they have them, but they are not required. Discover the art and history of traditional broom making in this fun, hands-on workshop led by Alex Asher and Shanon Lewis. Using real broomcorn, participants will learn the time-honored process of tying, winding, and shaping their own handcrafted broom before adding personal decorative touches to make it uniquely their own.
Whether you're embracing the spirit of spooky season with a whimsical "witchy" design or creating a classic functional broom, this workshop offers plenty of opportunities for creativity. Participants are encouraged to bring a sturdy stick or branch to use as a handle, along with optional ribbons, charms, dried flowers, or other embellishments to personalize their finished piece. All basic materials are included.
This class requires moderate hand strength, as participants will need to hold the broomcorn tightly while winding and securing it. Designed for adults, teens are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Join local artist and Director of Education Alex Asher for a full day of sketching at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. This relaxed workshop invites artists of all skill levels to slow down, observe, and draw from the museum's remarkable collection, historic architecture, and beautiful surroundings.
The day will begin with a guided tour of the museum, where Alex will share highlights of the collection and point out interesting subjects for sketching. After the tour, participants are free to explore the galleries and sketch throughout the museum for the remainder of the day. Alex will be available to answer questions, offer feedback, and provide guidance as you work.
This workshop is part of Alex Asher's ongoing Sketch St. Joseph series, encouraging artists to discover and document some of the city's most unique and inspiring locations.

Step away from the demands of everyday life and spend a day dedicated to relaxation, reflection, and renewal at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. Set within the inspiring surroundings of the museum, this one day wellness retreat invites you to nurture your mind, body, and spirit through a thoughtfully curated series of wellness and creative experiences.
The day begins with a gentle yoga practice and restorative sound bath led by Emily Fite, founder of The Yoga Room, helping you unwind, center yourself, and prepare for a day of intentional self care.
Throughout the retreat, participants will enjoy a variety of wellness and creative experiences designed to inspire relaxation and personal renewal. Join licensed massage therapist Tish Gerling, owner of Tranquility Massage & Body Spa, for an interactive workshop focused on simple, effective self massage techniques to help relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and ease common aches at home. You'll practice techniques for the neck, shoulders, jaw, hands, forearms, and feet while learning how just a few minutes each day can support your overall well being. Each participant will leave with practical skills they can begin using immediately, along with a small self care gift to continue their wellness journey at home. You'll also take part in a guided Creative Writing session with Kelly Lock-McMillen, using thoughtful prompts to inspire reflection and mindfulness, as well as an Art Therapy experience with Belinda Burgiss-Hall, where creative expression becomes a tool for reducing stress and cultivating inner calm.
