Today/Tomorrow/Yesterday: Michael McCaffrey Exhibition Opening

  • Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art 2818 Frederick Avenue Saint Joseph, MO, 64506 United States (map)

Join us for the opening reception of Today/Tomorrow/Yesterday, an exhibition by artist Michael McCaffrey, on Friday, August 21, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art.

Since 2014, McCaffrey has created paintings, drawings, and collages centered on his 87-year-old father, who serves as both muse and collaborator. This deeply personal body of work explores the evolving relationship between father and son, examining the stories, memories, and shared experiences that shape a lifetime.

Blending observation with imagination, the exhibition reflects on the ways memory changes over time. While many of the paintings are rooted in real events, they embrace the embellishments, distortions, and unexpected connections that naturally emerge through the act of remembering. Time folds and overlaps, creating dreamlike compositions where past and present coexist—even if the people, places, and objects don't seem to belong together. (And yes—there are plenty of cats.)

Through Today/Tomorrow/Yesterday, McCaffrey invites viewers to consider how memory is preserved, altered, and reimagined, and how painting itself becomes an act of remembering.

Celebrate the opening of this compelling new exhibition and meet the artist during the reception. Admission to the opening is free and all are welcome!
