Sketch the Missouri Theater: A Historic Art Experience
Step inside one of St. Joseph’s most treasured landmarks and experience the beauty of the Missouri Theater through the eyes of an artist. As the theater approaches its 100-year anniversary in 2027, this special sketching field trip offers a rare opportunity to explore its stunning interior up close.
The day will begin with a brief presentation by Lori McAlister, who will share the rich history of the theater, highlight the remarkable sculptural work of Waylande Gregory, and guide participants through the building’s most notable architectural features. Artists will then have time to sketch throughout the theater in a relaxed, self-guided session.
Participants are encouraged to take a midday break to enjoy lunch at one of downtown St. Joseph’s local spots before returning for an afternoon of continued sketching.
This unique, behind-the-scenes experience invites artists of all levels to connect with the history, craftsmanship, and atmosphere of this iconic space ahead of its Centennial Celebration.
Please bring only clean, dry media suitable for use over carpet (such as pencils, pens, or watercolor).
