Beginner's Knitting with Marylin Huskamp

  • Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art 2818 Frederick Avenue Saint Joseph, MO, 64506 United States (map)

This class is designed for beginning knitters and focuses on learning essential skills, including casting on, basic knit and purl stitches, casting off, and measuring gauge to ensure proper fit. We’ll start by knitting a small sampler to practice knit and purl stitches. Once students feel comfortable with the basics, we will begin working on a simple scarf.

As skills progress, students will be introduced to additional stitch patterns and techniques, such as cable stitches, yarn-over stitches, and popcorn stitches, among others.

All supplies are provided through Class 2. Beginning in Class 3, students will purchase their own materials to complete a scarf during Classes 3 and 4. Marylin will discuss what to purchase during Class 1—please wait for this guidance before buying supplies.

Materials needed (to be purchased after Class 2):

  • 2 skeins of 4- or 5-ply yarn

  • Circular needles, size 8 or 9
